The transition towards net-zero emissions is reshaping global energy and environmental systems, driven by the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining energy security, economic resilience and sustainable development. Renewable energy technologies have expanded rapidly; however, their large-scale deployment must be complemented by innovative solutions for energy conversion and storage, carbon management, resource recovery and industrial decarbonisation. Sustainable fuels, hydrogen technologies, carbon capture and utilisation, waste-to-energy processes and integrated low-carbon systems are increasingly important components of this transition. In parallel, advances in digitalisation, artificial intelligence and process optimisation are creating new opportunities to improve the efficiency, reliability and environmental performance of these technologies. Their effective integration across energy, industrial and environmental systems will be critical to achieving ambitious net-zero targets. The symposium, which serves as a specialized session of the 7th International Conference on Materials Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (CONF-MCEE 2027), will focus on energy and environmental technologies.
Achieving net-zero emissions requires more than the deployment of individual clean energy technologies. Key barriers remain in scalability, cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, system integration and the reduction of environmental impacts across the full technology lifecycle. Addressing these challenges requires transformative approaches that connect renewable energy generation with energy storage, sustainable fuels, carbon capture and utilisation, resource recovery and low-carbon industrial processes. Recent advances in green hydrogen, next-generation biofuels, carbon conversion, waste valorisation, high-performance energy systems and digitally enabled process optimisation provide significant opportunities to accelerate this transition. The symposium aims to explore how these emerging technologies can move beyond isolated applications towards integrated, scalable and environmentally sustainable solutions. Particular attention will be given to technological innovation, process intensification, circular resource use, digitalisation and cross-sector integration that can bridge the gap between research advances and practical implementation, thereby supporting a secure, resilient and net-zero energy future.
The symposium welcomes interdisciplinary contributions addressing transformative technologies for sustainable energy, environmental protection and the net-zero transition. Key themes include renewable and low-carbon energy systems; hydrogen production, storage and utilisation; sustainable and alternative fuels; carbon capture, utilisation and storage; energy storage and conversion technologies; biomass, bioenergy and waste-to-energy processes; resource recovery and circular economy approaches; industrial decarbonisation and process intensification; pollution prevention and environmental remediation; and integrated energy and environmental systems. Contributions exploring artificial intelligence, digital twins, modelling, process optimisation and other data-driven approaches for improving energy and environmental performance are also encouraged. Particular interest will be given to innovative, scalable and interdisciplinary solutions that demonstrate pathways from fundamental research and technology development towards practical implementation and measurable contributions to net-zero and environmental sustainability goals.
Accepted papers of the symposium will be published in conference proceedings, and will be submitted to EI Compendex, Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI), Crossref, CNKI, Portico, Google Scholar, and other databases for indexing. The situation may be affected by factors among databases like processing time, workflow, policy, etc.
This symposium is organized by CONF-MCEE 2027 and it will independently proceed the submission and publication process.
