Symposium Series

Department of Astronautical Engineering, Erciyes University, Turkey

Symposium Chair: Dr. Harun Celik, Assistant Professor in Erciyes University

The symposium Advances in Sustainable Aviation and Aerospace Vehicle Automation was held on 17 January 2025. Preliminary results of 3 ongoing research projects supervised by Dr. Harun Çelik were presented. The titles Model Reference Adaptive Attitude Control of a Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Image-Based Target Tracking Control of a Quadcopter, and Prototyping and Feedback Control of Space Exploration Antenna Azimuth Position were presented by Ms. İdil Sena Durukan, Mr. Yunus Emre Taşçakır and Ms. Rabia Nur Aktay, respectively.

During the symposium, students and scientists discussed the role of automation in improving safety, reducing human error and optimising aviation and aerospace operations. In particular, the symposium highlighted the importance of automated flight control and data acquisition from space for various missions.

Preliminary research results demonstrated the robustness of the control algorithm in attitude control, which could lead to support for sustainability issues such as energy consumption. In addition, the results of both the theoretical modelling and the experimental validation phases underlined the effectiveness of the feedback control system for automatic data acquisition from space. Reliable data from space (e.g. the Sun) could also serve as a basis for future studies addressing environmental challenges. Dr. Harun Çelik made assessments to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and innovation, accelerate the development and adoption of sustainable practices and automated technologies in the aerospace sector, and pave the way for a more efficient, safe and environmentally responsible future.

Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering co-organized with Institute Bioproduct Development and Postgraduate Student Society Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (PGSS FCEE)

Symposium Chair: Dr. Jamarosliza binti Jamaluddin, Senior Lecturer in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

On December 16, 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted the symposium on Next-Generation Bio-Based Materials: Pioneering Sustainability in Johor Bahru. Jointly organized by the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FCEE) and the Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD), the symposium explored innovative bio-based materials to address global sustainability challenges. It also served as a precursor to the 5th International Conference on Materials Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (CONF-MCEE 2025), set for January 2025.

The event featured diverse knowledge-sharing sessions led by experts from academia and industry, covering topics such as bio-based hydrogels, patch fabrication technology, and sustainable innovations like converting agricultural and kitchen waste into eco-friendly products and clean fuel. Advanced material characterization technologies were also highlighted.

In line with its focus on talent development, the symposium included a poster competition organized by the Postgraduate Students Society of FCEE (PGSS FCEE), judged by academics and a representative from the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB). Participants showcased cutting-edge research on bio-based materials, fostering innovation and collaboration.

The symposium provided valuable networking opportunities, connecting researchers, students, and industry players. Exhibition booths by MPIB and IBD further demonstrated their support for sustainable research. This initiative underscores UTM’s commitment to impactful research, strategic collaboration, and leadership in pioneering sustainable solutions for a better future.

Research Group on Economics at University of Murcia

Symposium Chair: Dr. Javier Cifuentes-Faura, Researcher in University of Murcia

The symposium "Energy Technologies Publicly Funded R&D on Environmental Quality" brought together several students from the University of Murcia. This symposium discussed environmental performance and energy technologies. The impact on environmental quality of publicly supported R&D in energy technologies was examined, both in aggregate and disaggregated form. In addition, the study presented at the symposium included in its estimates two leading indicators of climate change: greenhouse gas emissions from energy and surface temperature change, in order to effectively moderate policy. The comparative assessment of the impact of different technological developments on energy-related emissions and global surface temperature change gained credibility with the adoption of these two crucial indicators. In addition, the study used the most recent dataset covering the period before, during and after COVID-19, and policy discussions were held.

Online Session

The online session of the 5th International Conference on Materials Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (CONF-MCEE 2025) was held on January 17, 2025. Dr. Harun Celik from Erciyes University, Dr. Jamarosliza binti Jamaluddin from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and Dr. Javier Cifuentes-Faura from University of Murcia have given keynote speech on related topics of materials chemistry and environmental engineering. Also, we invited authors of qualified papers to deliver oral presentations at the online session. Authors have presented their studies of materials science, chemistry engineering, environmental engineering, etc. Questions from the audience were collected and answered by the presenters.
