CONF-MCEE 2024

The 4th International Conference on Materials Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (CONF-MCEE 2024) was a hybrid conference which includes several workshops (offline and online) around the world. Dr. Seyed Ghaffar from University of Birmingham, Dr. Ioannis Spanopoulos from University of South Florida, Dr Ömer Burak İSTANBULLU from Eskisehir Osmangazi University, and Dr. Yang Yi from Wuhan Polytechnic University have chaired these workshops on related topics. CONF-MCEE 2024 provided the participants with good opportunities to exchange ideas and build networks, and it will lead to further collaborations between both universities and other societies.

Workshop

University of Birmingham, UK

Organizer: Department of Civil Engineering, University of Birmingham

The topic of the workshop was of interest to the attendees as reflected by their questions during the workshop. The main points and key takeaway point of the workshop was that new material formulations are necessary to overcome the challenges with emissions associated with traditional materials used in the built environment. The potential of nano-additives in improving the mechanical and printing properties of the cementitious composites is encouraging and something that requires further investigations especially on the economic aspect of it to facilitate large scale implementation.

University of South Florida, USA

Organizer: Department of Chemistry & Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, University of South Florida

The workshop "Perovskite Solar Cells Challenges and Promises" was successfully held on Dec 8, 2023, at the Department of Chemistry, University of South Florida, and was presented by Professor Ioannis Spanopoulos. The 12 students attending the workshop were mainly chemistry and physics graduate and undergraduate students with diverse research backgrounds. The lecture from Prof. Xiaomei Jiang (USF) was on "The Challenges and Promises of Metal Halide Perovskites for Solid State Solar Cells." The workshop showcased current state-of-the-art perovskite-based solar cells, materials development, device assembly, characterization, data analysis, and interpretation.

Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Turkey

Organizer: Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Eskişehir Osmangazi University

The workshop yielded significant results, fostering a collaborative environment that propelled advancements in the field. Researchers, practitioners, and experts from diverse disciplines such as biomaterials, signal processing and medical imaging came together to share insights and explore innovative approaches to mitigate image and signal quality degradation. Discussions centered on biomaterial visibility, image and signal processing algorithms for noise reduction, metal-artifact reduction, resolution enhancement, and contrast improvement in the medical images. Notably, deep learning and machine learning methods showcased promising potential for image and signal restoration, contributing to the development of robust computer-aided diagnostic systems. The workshop successfully identified gaps in existing methodologies and paved the way for future research avenues in biomedical engineering. Participants actively engaged in discussions, exchanged research findings, and established valuable connections with experts. The collaborative efforts during the workshop are anticipated to have a lasting impact on healthcare practices by driving advancements in computer-aided diagnosis. By addressing the critical problem of preserving and enhancing image and signal quality, particularly on biodegradable biomaterial imaging with X-ray and MRI systems, the workshop has played a pivotal role in advancing clinical decision-making processes, ultimately improving patient care and treatment outcomes. The results underscore the importance of ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations in biomedical engineering to overcome challenges and promote the development of reliable diagnostic systems.

Wuhan Polytechnic University, China

Organizer: Wuhan Polytechnic University and Hubei Jingchu Specialty Food Industry Technology Research Institute

On December 2, 2023, the 4th International Conference on Chemistry of Materials and Environmental Engineering was held in Wuhan, China, in Room 602, 6th Floor, China Oil and Grease Museum, Campus of Wuhan University of Light Industry (WULI), Jinyinhu, Wuhan, China. More than ten reporters in the conference reported colorful and full of content, deeply centered on the development of chemistry and materials, environment and engineering aspects to put forward different theoretical research. Attendees at the conference were attentive and focused on learning about the trends and directions of future development.

The presenters and experts shared many valuable insights and experiences from different perspectives. Among them, at the meeting, Ms. Huajuan Wang from Wuhan University of Light Industry reported on the preparation of mesoporous polydopamine nanocomposites and their antimicrobial properties against foodborne pathogens, Dr. Feng Hong from Huazhong Agricultural University (Wuhan, Hubei, China) reported on the study of rapid detection methods of hazardous factors in food products, and Dr. Mingrui Zhou reported on the co-encapsulation of anthocyanins and cinnamaldehyde in nanoparticle-filled carrageenan films: preparation, Characterization and active packaging applications, they reported different insights on materials and detection, which provided valuable advice for the construction of materials chemistry environmental engineering.
